Ain Orav was born in Pärnu and began his vocal studies in 1975 under the guidance of teacher Endel Prik at Ülejõe Põhikool, recommended by music educator Klaudia Taev. In 1976, he achieved the second prize in a national competition for young vocalists. According to Toomas Kuter, the president of the Klaudia Taev International Singers Competition, Ain was the favorite student of the legendary vocal teacher Klaudia Taev. Ain studied at Pärnu Ühisgümnaasium from 1974 to 1977 and performed as a soloist in the school’s dance orchestra and entertainment orchestra “SÜMEKA.”

From 1977 to 1982, he pursued studies at the Tallinn University of Technology in the Faculty of Chemistry while taking private classical singing lessons with Sergei Annilo. Ain sang in the Tallinn University of Technology Men’s Choir and performed as a soloist. Between 1982 and 1990, he studied singing at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, initially under Viktor Gurjev and later under Ludmilla Isaakova.

From 1982 to 1998, Ain worked in the choir of the Estonian National Opera. Between 1998 and 2013, he was employed at the Tallinn Municipal Office, and since 2013, he has been working at the Lasnamäe District Government. Ain continues to perform as a freelance singer in opera and chamber concerts, as well as a soloist in church concerts and large-scale performances.
