Katariina Maria Kits, born in Tallinn, Estonia, embarked on her musical journey at the age of six. In 2002, she joined the Tallinn Music High School, initially under Marge Lille’s guidance and later, from 2004 to 2014, in Tiiu Peäske’s class. Since September 2014, she has been studying with Prof. Svetlana Makarova at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne in Switzerland.

As a soloist, Katariina has collaborated with various orchestras, including the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Estonian National Opera Orchestra, Estonian National Youth Symphony Orchestra, Virumaa Chamber Orchestra, Tallinn Music High School Symphony Orchestra, Pärnu City Orchestra, Haapsalu City Orchestra, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, and Vaasa City Orchestra. She has toured extensively, showcasing her talent in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

Katariina gained recognition after winning the Estonian ETV TV-competition “Classic Stars 2014,” leading to numerous television and radio performances. She has also worked with Arvo Pärt, a prominent contemporary composer, recording several of his compositions, including “Spiegel im Spiegel.”

Throughout her career, Katariina has honed her skills through masterclasses with esteemed musicians such as Alf Richard Kraggerud, Robert Rozek, Detflef Hahn, John York, François Killian, Alexander Bonduriansky, Gudny Guðmundsdóttir, Pavel Vernikov, Jan Repko, Nicolas Dautricourt, Florian Donderer, Petru Munteanu, and Ulrike Danhofer.

She is a multiple prize winner at international competitions, achieving notable successes such as the 2nd Prize at the ESTA National String Competition in 2005 and 1st Prize in 2007, the 4th Prize at the International Russian Rotary Children Music Competition in Moscow (2006), and the 2nd Prize at the ‘Remember Enescu’ International Violin Competition in Sinaia (2006). Katariina has also received recognition at the ‘Young Musician’ International Competition for Pianists, Violinists, and Cellists with a 3rd Prize in 2007 and a 2nd Prize in 2009. Her achievements extend to winning the Grand Prix at her school competition “Con Fantasia” in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2014, as well as securing victory in the Estonian ETV TV-competition “Classic Stars 2014.”

Katariina Maria Kits performs on a violin made in the year 1670 by Henricus Catenar, generously provided by the Estonian Instrument Fund.
